Chateau La Dominique 2020

At the tasting, Château La Dominique has a deep and brilliant red color and combines the generosity of Saint-Emilion with the sap of Pomerol.

The terroir of this property, superbly located on the north of Saint Emilion, is close to Château Cheval Blanc and Château Figeac, on the edge of the Pomerol appellation where Château L’Evangile and Château La Conseillante are located. Throughout the year, the team takes the greatest care of the vineyard to produce grapes of the highest quality. The vines are 31 years old on average and the different grape varieties used are Merlot (81%), Cabernet Franc (16%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (3%). The cultivation method is traditional, natural grassing one rank out of two depending on the vigor. Planting is about 7000 to 9000 feet per hectare. The harvest is entirely manual. The current winery, equipped with thermo-regulated stainless steel vats, allows for partial winemaking to draw the quintessence of the grapes. 70 to 80% of the harvest is aged in barrels. All this work leads to the development of a wine of the highest quality in the best conditions to be one of the best wines of this famous appellation under the guidance of oenologist Michel Rolland.

A nice history said that La Dominique comes from a rich merchant owner of the area at the end of the eighteenth century and who would have baptized the property in memory of the island in the Caribbean. Note that the Château La Dominique appears on the map of Bellyeme published in 1785 and in the first volumes of Bordeaux and its wines of Ed. Ferret in 1868. The ancient works indicate it as the equal of the greatest. Professor Henri Enjalbert, who has studied so much the soils and basements of the region, compares the terroir of Dominica to those of his neighbors Cheval Blanc or Figeac. Since the acquisition of the property by Clément Fayat in 1969, the vineyard has been completely restructured, replanted, expanded and improved, making today approximately 30 hectares.
