Information
Its deep red appearance, of a ruby purple gives way to a sumptuous nose with fragrances of blackberry, blueberry, cherry stone, and mature plums. Maturity brings out the leather, pepper and notes of roast coffee. One can particularly appreciate its round texture, supported by a nice tannic, strong consistency. This famous representative of the Côte de Beaune can be enjoyed with a hare terrine, minced kidney with red fruit, a nice piece of grilled Charolais beef, and cheeses with strong flavors (Munster, Livarot, Langres). Furry and feathered game, braised or roasted, will find this Pommard Premier Cru to be an indispensable partner.
Story
Pommard, a wine-making village located 3 km south of Beaune, produces one of the most renowned appellations among the wines of France, exclusively in a red wine born of the Pinot Noir vintage in a premier cru with a town appellation. Pommard marks the place where the Côte de Beaune forks and turns more to the southwest. The terroir is limited to this town and its vineyard is located on the side of the hill, at an altitude of 280 meters. Promoted since the Middle Ages, it produces exclusively red wines that are robust and tannic, made from the Pinot Noir grape. There are no Grands Crus here, but twenty-eight Premiers Crus which occupy the hillside and rest on clay and limestone soils. The loamy soil gives rise to the robustness and the excellence of these wines. The Premiers Crus have a round consistency with a delicate, firm structure. These are reds that should be allowed to age on the land, since they are fairly tannic in their youth and fill out over time.
